Business and Life Success – Secrets to Health, Wealth and Happiness

January 13th, 2010

New Year’s Resolution Success

Well, it is that time of year again when with all good intentions we make our New Year’s Resolution – you know – all those important goals that we are determined we will achieve for 2010. Maybe some of these ring a bell:

• Lose weight
• Get fit
• Improve my marriage
• Earn more money
• Spend more time with the kids
• Further my education
• Start that business I have been dreaming about
• Travel around the world
• Find peace and happiness

Unfortunately, most people never complete their New Year’s resolution. We start out strong in January, continue intermittently during the year but by December we realize that we have fallen short of the goal and once again feel discouraged and lose hope.
Now, if I am writing to you then you have either visited my website www.secretstoemotionalhealth.com/signup.html or you have received a number of my free products via email. I was trying to think about what else I could give that would help people live healthier, happier and wealthier lives and I figured the best thing possible would be to help you achieve your dreams for 2010.

Follow these steps to the letter and you will achieve your New Year’s Resolution dream:

1. Write your dream/dreams down. It has been proven again and again that those who actually write down their dreams have a much higher success rate of achieving them. In fact, that was just how I met and married my second husband and soul mate. I wrote down the 18 things I was looking for in a partner and measured everyone against this list. You probably want to know if he got 18 ticks? Well, actually he achieved 17 out of the 18 so I figured he was a keeper. (see my website: www.guidetoonlinedatingtips.com if you want to know more about how to find the love of your life online)

2. Be very specific about what you write eg dates, full descriptions and even photos of what it is you are aiming for. If possible have a symbol around you all the time that reminds you of where you soon will be. One of our goals is to create great wealth. We have a photo of a bucket overflowing with water as this symbolizes to us that what is in the bucket is ours and what flows out is for the betterment of others.

3. Join a group or have people around you that can fulfill a number of very important roles. People to mentor you, to educate you and support you. We all struggle at times when on a journey to success and it is imperative to have someone to turn to who will both encourage you plus keep you accountable. This is a non negotiable if you really want to achieve your dream

4. Anticipate discouragement. I would find it hard to believe there would be one person on the face of this earth who has not felt discouraged at times when working towards their dream – I know that I have. Accept this is normal and be prepared with that great support network around you. It will pass if you keep focused on what is really important to you. If you would like to know more about how to tackle discouragement have a look at the article I wrote earlier on this blog

5. Cultivate an “I Know” attitude. “I know that I will achieve my dream” Talk to yourself like this all the time and be very specific eg “ I know that I will weight __kgs by __date” Believe in yourself and and increase your self confidence. Remember that you are the most important factor in your life success.

Now I know that many people want to improve their health, wealth and happiness and have been thinking about joining my mentoring program Secrets to Emotional Health but life happens and you just didn’t get around to it

Google Adwords Bans Me-Secrets To Emotional Health

January 7th, 2010

I just arrived home from a trip around the world (and yes it was fabulous and yes, I will be sharing some pictures with you) to receive a very blunt letter from Google – they had disabled my Adwords account! What does that mean? It means that I can never advertise on Google Adwords again.

Now if I was you, the first question I would be asking is why? Well that’s exactly what I also asked Google and to date (10 days later) I have not had any sort of answer.

Google Adwords have told me that I have broken some unforgivable rule but I really do not know what.  Since learning of this we have:

  • audited all our websites
  • talked with Hostgater to see if any nasties had been put on there that we weren’t aware of
  • talked with our email service to make sure we are receiving all messages
  • contacted a number of people in the business including the adwords expert Mike Rhodes
  • read other people’s stories who have had the same thing happen to them -and there seems to be a few
  • reread Googles rules and regulations to see if we could identify any rule we may have unknowingly broken – and couldn’t identify anything

And at the moment we are no further advanced on why this has happened to us and how to fix it.

As you can imagine this is time costly.

The thing that I am really having trouble with is that Google Adwords is telling me that I have not acted ethically (my interpretation).  My whole professional life has been governed by the ethics of caring for others so I not only see this banning by Google as a very large threat to my business but also to my reputation.

I am an optimist and definitely believe that when one door closes another opens. We’ll just have to work out other ways of driving traffic and certainly people are telling me not to worry about this as there are other ways to do it.

I think though I’ll give it a few more tries appealing to Google as I really want to believe in the good Corporate culture and spirit that we hear so much about today. I will choose to believe it is alive and well

I’m really needing some support, advice and information with regards to this one so please leave your comments about anything you feel would be helpful to me and others like me in this difficult situation.

My advice for my readers – check your websites against the Google Adwords regulations. Obviously, this has not been enough to save me a lot of confusion and distress but I really hope that it will be for you

Until next time

Creating a Membership Site Using Andrew and Daryl Grants Simple Model

July 3rd, 2009

Well its been a while since my last entry and the reason for this is I’ve been so busy developing my new membership site – Matters of the Heart: The Secrets to Emotional Health, Healing, Vitality and Wellbeing @ www.scretstoemotionalhealth.com  It’s not live yet but about to launch in three weeks so keep looking out for news of its launch as I will be giving away some special things.

Seeing I’ve been working on my membership site, I thought it a good time to discuss the benefits and points of  such a product on the internet.

  1. A membership site provides recurring income. With the model I am using, people pay for a month and receive weekly eclasses. They can continue with this for as long as the work is valuable. This obviously, is a better deal for you than a one off ebook .
  2. It is best to initially choose a topic that you know something about so you can write the weekly eclasses. Of course another option is to simply pay someone to write all the material for you and you can find ghost writers on such sites as www.elance.com and www.rentacoder.com
  3. There are a number of models for memberships sites but the one I have chosen to go with is that used by Andrew and Daryl Grant. The best way to learn all that they have to offer is to book into one of their workshops (which I did). You can just follow this link to find out about the workshop. http://www.ourinternetsecrets.com/2009/lookinside/opt2.html
  4. A membership site allows you to dominate your field or to be seen as an expert in your chosen area. This is particularly important on the internet. In my line of work I am regarded as an expert but on the internet it is now about getting my name and my products out there for people to trust me. By the way, if you are wondering what my line of work has been for the last twenty five years, I am an expert in emotional and mental health. I have worked on the full continum scale from personal growth and self development to the other extreme of trauma, critical incidents and disaster management. I am now bringing this expertise to the internet and my membership site is the perfect vehicle to do this. So if you are an expert in a field this may be your vehicle of choice
  5. The three main areas of development for your membership site are
    • Writing the sales page and developing the web page – this is your store
    • Writing the material you are going to market – this is the product or eclasses
    • Marketing your product online and offline – this is what makes you money
  6. Remember that you can always outsource a good deal of this work but of course it will cost money
  7. My husband and I have worked at learning the business from the bottom up and now we are tending to pay the experts more and do what we believe we do best – run the business rather than work in it

I hope this has encouraged you to at least look into this further. Please leave any comments and questions you have. I’d like to know others experiences with this sort of product.

Don’t forget if you want help with the real nitty gritty of the development go to:

http://www.ourinternetsecrets.com/2009/lookinside/opt2.html or just simply click on the banner on the right hand side.

By the way if you are looking for help set up your blog I cannot recommend highly enough Yaro Starak. What Yaro gives away is phenomenal and really worth a fortune. I’ve met him and he really is a nice guy. Just click his banner on the right hand side.

Until next time

Improve Your Memory;Increase Your Business Success

June 14th, 2009

This may seem an unusual article for my blog but when I read it I was really impressed and wanted to share it with you. A sharp mind, capable of making quick, clear decisions is essential for both business and life success. You’ll be surprised (as I was) by what you can do to achieve a sharp mind and consequently, improve your chances of success.

How to Improve Memory

Use It or Lose It:  Dancing Makes You Smarter

Musings by Richard Powers

For hundreds of years dance manuals and other writings have lauded the health benefits of dancing, usually as physical exercise.  More recently we’ve seen research on further health benefits of dancing, such as stress reduction and increased serotonin level, with its sense of well-being.

Then most recently we’ve heard of another benefit:  Frequent dancing apparently makes us smarter.  A major study added to the growing evidence that stimulating one’s mind can ward off Alzheimer’s disease and other dementia, much as physical exercise can keep the body fit.

You’ve probably heard about the New England Journal of Medicine <http://content.nejm.org/cgi/content/abstract/348/25/2508>  report on

the effects of recreational activities on mental acuity in aging.   Here

it is in a nutshell.

The 21-year study of senior citizens, 75 and older, was led by the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City, funded by the National Institute on Aging, and published in the New England Journal of Medicine.  Their method for objectively measuring mental acuity in aging was to monitor rates of dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease.

The study wanted to see if any physical or cognitive recreational activities influenced mental acuity.  They discovered that some activities had a significant beneficial effect.  Other activities had none.

They studied cognitive activities such as reading books, writing for pleasure, doing crossword puzzles, playing cards and playing musical instruments.  And they studied physical activities like playing tennis or golf, swimming, bicycling, dancing, walking for exercise and doing housework.

One of the surprises of the study was that almost none of the physical activities appeared to offer any protection against dementia.  There can be cardiovascular benefits of course, but the focus of this study was the mind.  There was one important exception:  the only physical activity to offer protection against dementia was frequent dancing.

Reading – 35% reduced risk of dementia

            Bicycling and swimming – 0%

People who played the hardest gained the most:  For example, seniors who did crossword puzzles four days a week had a 47% lower risk of dementia than those who did the puzzles once a week.

            Playing golf – 0%

            Dancing frequently – 76%.

That was the greatest risk reduction of any activity studied, cognitive or physical.

Quoting Dr. Joseph Coyle, a Harvard Medical School psychiatrist who wrote an accompanying commentary:

“The cerebral cortex and hippocampus, which are critical to these activities, are remarkably plastic, and they rewire themselves based upon their use.”

And from from the study itself, Dr. Katzman proposed these persons are more resistant to the effects of dementia as a result of having greater cognitive reserve and increased complexity of neuronal synapses.  Like education, participation in some leisure activities lowers the risk of dementia by improving cognitive reserve.

Our brain constantly rewires its neural pathways, as needed.  If it doesn’t need to, then it won’t.

            Aging and memory

When brain cells die and synapses weaken with aging, our nouns go first, like names of people, because there’s only one neural pathway connecting to that stored information.  If the single neural connection to that name fades, we lose access to it.  So as we age, we learn to parallel process, to come up with synonyms to go around these roadblocks.  (Or maybe we don’t learn to do this, and just become a dimmer bulb.)

The key here is Dr. Katzman’s emphasis on the complexity of our neuronal synapses.  More is better.  Do whatever you can to create new neural paths.  The opposite of this is taking the same old well-worn path over and over again, with habitual patterns of thinking and living our lives.

When I was studying the creative process as a grad student at Stanford, I came across the perfect analogy to this:

The more stepping stones there are across the creek,

the easier it is to cross in your own style.

The focus of that aphorism was creative thinking, to find as many alternative paths as possible to a creative solution.  But as we age, parallel processing becomes more critical.  Now it’s no longer a matter of style, it’s a matter of survival — getting across the creek at all.

Randomly dying brain cells are like stepping stones being removed one by one.  Those who had only one well-worn path of stones are completely blocked when some are removed.  But those who spent their lives trying different mental routes each time, creating a myriad of possible paths, still have several paths left.

The Albert Einstein College of Medicine study shows that we need to keep as many of those paths active as we can, while also generating new paths, to maintain the complexity of our neuronal synapses.

            Why dancing?

We immediately ask two questions:

*  Why is dancing better than other activities for improving mental capabilities?

*  Does this mean all kinds of dancing, or is one kind of dancing better than another?

That’s where this particular study falls short.  It doesn’t answer these questions as a stand-alone study.  Fortunately, it isn’t a stand-alone study.  It’s one of many studies, over decades, which have shown that we increase our mental capacity by exercising our cognitive processes.

Intelligence: Use it or lose it.  And it’s the other studies which fill in the gaps in this one.  Looking at all of these studies together lets us understand the bigger picture.

Some of this is discussed here

<http://socialdance.stanford.edu/syllabi/intelligent.htm>  (the page you probably just came from) which looks at intelligence in greater depth.

The essence of intelligence is making decisions.  And the concluding advice, when it comes to improving your mental acuity, is to involve yourself in activities which require split-second rapid-fire decision making, as opposed to rote memory (retracing the same well-worn paths), or just working on your physical style.

One way to do that is to learn something new.  Not just dancing, but anything new.  Don’t worry about the probability that you’ll never use it in the future.  Take a class to challenge your mind.  It will stimulate the connectivity of your brain by generating the need for new pathways.  Difficult and even frustrating classes are better for you, as they will create a greater need for new neural pathways.

Then take a dance class, which can be even better.  Dancing integrates several brain functions at once, increasing connectivity.  Dancing simultaneously involves kinesthetic, rational, musical and emotional processes.

            What kind of dancing?

Let’s go back to the study:

Bicycling, swimming or playing golf – 0% reduced risk of dementia

But doesn’t golf require rapid-fire decision-making?  No, not if you’re a long-time player.  You made most of the decisions when you first started playing, years ago.  Now the game is mostly refining your technique.  It can be good physical exercise, but the study showed it led to no improvement in mental acuity.

Therefore take the kinds of dance classes where you must make as many split-second decisions as possible.  That’s key to maintaining true intelligence.

Does any kind of dancing lead to increased mental acuity?  No, not all forms of dancing will produce this benefit.  Not dancing which, like golf or swimming, mostly works on style or retracing the same memorized paths.  The key is the decision-making.  Remember, Jean Piaget suggested that intelligence is what we use when we don’t already know what to do.

We wish that 25 years ago the Albert Einstein College of Medicine thought of doing side-by-side comparisons of different kinds of dancing, to find out which was better.  But we can figure it out by looking at who they studied: senior citizens 75 and older, beginning in 1980.

Those who danced in that particular population were former Roaring Twenties dancers (back in 1980) and then former Swing Era dancers (today), so the kind of dancing most of them continued to do in retirement was what they began when they were young: freestyle social dancing — basic foxtrot, swing, waltz and maybe some Latin.

I’ve been watching senior citizens dance all of my life, from my parents (who met at a Tommy Dorsey dance), to retirement communities, to the Roseland Ballroom in New York.  I almost never see memorized sequences or patterns on the dance floor.  I mostly see easygoing, fairly simple

social dancing — freestyle lead and follow.   But freestyle social

dancing isn’t that simple!  It requires a lot of split-second decision-making, in both the lead and follow roles.

      I need to digress here:

I want to point out that I’m not demonizing memorized sequence dancing or style-focused pattern-based ballroom dancing.  I sometimes enjoy sequence dances for several good reasons <http://socialdance.stanford.edu/syllabi/sequences.htm> .  Plus there are stress-reduction benefits of any kind of dancing, cardiovascular benefits of physical exercise, and even further benefits of feeling connected to a community of dancers.  So all dancing is good.

But when it comes to preserving mental acuity, then some forms are better than others.  When we talk of intelligence (use it or lose it) then the more decision-making we can bring into our dancing, the better.

Challenge yourself to try new things.  Make more decisions more often.

Intelligence: use it or lose it.

Hope this article encourages you to get out there, have some fun and make yourself smarter

Until next time

Andrew and Daryl Grant – Building an eBook Website Step 5

May 28th, 2009

Step five—Build your website with a process to collect the money

You can now change your survey site to a full sales site. The pages you’ll have are:

  • Your home page. This has your sales letter on it, and buttons people can click on to buy. It also has buttons to get to the other pages.
  • A Frequently Asked Question (FAQ) page. You should start with some basic questions, such as:
    • Can I buy the book if I live outside the United States?
    • I don’t have a credit card – how else can I pay for the book?
    • Can I get the book in hard copy, or only as an e-book?
    • How do I know that what you’re saying is true?
    • How secure is Clickbank?

You can then add other questions as people email you queries.

  • A “contact us” page, with a form they can submit with boxes for their email address, name, and question or comment.

Here are the steps to building the website:

  • Create each of your pages in MS Word. Once you are happy with the content, do a “save as”, and save them as webpages.
  • Edit the look of your webpages. The software we use for this is Dreamweaver, from www.adobe.com
  • Upload the finished page to the web via ftp.

You can make your website look really professional by doing the following:

  • Have a good template and graphics, such as an ebook cover. www.youreasywebsolutions.com is really good value for doing this, and we always find that sales go up when we change the look of our sites to being more professional.
  • Add audio or video for real impact. Instant audio / video generator is the software we use for this. You can get it at www.instantvideogenerator.com

Throughout your sales letter you give people the opportunity (and the encouragement) to buy your e-book, and include a link which says something like “Click here to purchase”.

It’s easiest to sell your e-book through Clickbank (www.clickbank.com). Clickbank is the internet’s largest on-line distribution centre for electronic products. When someone clicks on the “Click here to purchase” button on your website, they are immediately taken to Clickbank’s secure server. Clickbank take their credit card details and do all the payment processing. They are then sent to a page on your site from which they can download the e-book.

Using Clickbank does two things:

  • It makes people feel more comfortable buying your book on the internet, as Clickbank is well-known and trusted. Clickbank also honours the guarantee, making the purchase risk-free for the buyer.
  • It also stops people ripping you off by giving you false credit card details.

Every fortnight, Clickbank then posts you a cheque (in US dollars) which you can deposit into your bank account.

It costs about $60 to set up a Clickbank account. You can register as many products as you like on one Clickbank account.

The other useful thing about Clickbank is that they have an “affiliate” program. This means that other people can see that you are selling your book on line, and can promote your book on their site. They get a percentage of any sale they make (and you can nominate the percentage), but it costs you nothing to advertise on their site.

The process for registering your product on Clickbank is a bit complicated.

You need to fill out a list of information about your product:

  • Brief description of your product
  • The retail price ClickBank should charge for this product.
  • Are you the creator of this product?
  • If not, from whom did you obtain a license to sell it?
  • Do your product promotions match all of our guidelines (above)?
  • Did you make a $0.00 test purchase yet? (ie did you test that the links all work?)
  • How is this product digitally delivered? (web page, email, etc)
  • How fast is this product delivered? (5 seconds, 5 minutes, etc)
  • The address of your sales page.
  • The address of your Thank You Page.
  • Comments.

You then need to wait until Clickbank has approved your book (1-3 days) before you can start to sell it.
Once your product has been approved by Clickbank, you need to double check that the links to, from and between your web pages are all working. You also need to ensure the down-load process for your e-book is working, so that once someone has paid for your book, they can get it easily and instantaneously

If you hadn’t had a look at Clickban yet, I would also strongly suggest that you do. Besides using it to sell your own product, you can choose to sell other people’s products.

Andrew and Daryl Grant – Building an eBook Website Step 3

May 23rd, 2009

Hello everyone

Sorry to have taken so long but here is what you have been waiting for – step three in how to build an ebook website:

Step three—Develop the product

If the topic looks like a “goer”, you need to develop the product. If it is an ebook, you can either write it yourself, or get someone else to write it.

If the topic is something you know a lot about, it will be cheaper to write it yourself. Do this in MS Word, and turn it into a PDF file once it’s finished.

If the topic is not something you know much about, you can get someone else to write it. We use www.rentacoder.com to find people to write books for us.

To get someone at rentacoder to write your book, you will need to register as a buyer, and post a job. Go to www.rentacoder.com and follow the prompts. You will have people from all around the world offering to write your book for you. Once you have chosen one you are happy with, you will need to put “funds in escrow”. This means that rentacoder charges your credit card, but doesn’t release the funds to the writer until the work is finished and you are happy with it. This way, you get what you wanted, and the writer knows they will be paid for it. A book could cost you anything up to $500, depending on the content and how hard it is to write.

The book on www.skin-cancer-advice.com “Melanoma can be beaten—7 survivors tell their stories” was written using www.rentacoder.com for about $500. You can get books written for less than this, but the quality can be a bit variable. We generally look for a writer with English as their first language. Rentacoder has a rating system, based on work each writer’s done in the past, so it’s worth checking our their track record first. You can either request a specific coder, or put the job out for anyone to bid on.

Click here to get a copy of the specs we prepared to get a book written for $150.

Other ways we have developed products is by interviewing an expert (either face to face or over the phone), recording the interview, and then having it transcribed, again by someone from rentacoder. The software we use is TRX Recorder, from www.nch.com.au. This software allows you to record a phone conversation directly onto your hard drive. From there you can burn it to a disc, and you have an instant product!

Once the book is written you will need to edit it and turn it into a pdf file.

Until next time

Andrew and Daryl Grant – Steps To Selling Your EBook Online

May 16th, 2009

Just arrived back from our holiday in beautiful Coffs Harbour (that’s in New South Wales Australia for those not local). We had a great time but unfortunately I probably had a better time than Will as he had the flu, so he is happy to be safe and sound in his own bed.

This post begins a six part series from Andrew and Daryl Grant on how to sell your ebook online. We originally started in their ebook mentoring program – see the banner on the right hand side or simply click this link to have a look at this website:

http://www.ourinternetsecrets.com/aff/?p=jspain&w=mp09-4

We then progressed into their Our Internet Secrets program. I will be writing a review of this program later on but if you cannot wait to find out more just follow this link to find out about their amazing 4 day workshop. It truly was the best workshop I have ever been to:

http://www.ourinternetsecrets.com/aff/?w=4dayws197&p=jspain

These are the steps that we followed to write our first two ebooks. If you want to look at our ebooks them go to:

www.copingwithlifecrisis.com

www.guidetoonlinedatingtips.com

Step One – Identify A Potential Topic

You are after a topic which lots of people are looking for, and where people “must have” (rather than “need”) the product.

You also want a “niche”, ie a topic which is not too general. For example, “health” is far too general, but “melanoma” is specific enough.

You don’t necessarily need to know anything about the topic, but it helps if it’s something you are interested in.

The tool we use to determine how popular ideas are is http://www.keyworddiscovery.com/search.html.

Click here for a list of the 204 best selling topics on line.

Once you have come up with some ideas, search for the key words you think people interested in a topic might look for. You are looking for words or phrases which total more than 30,000 hits per month on keyworddiscovery for your topic. For example if you type in “skin cancer” you get over 53,000 hits per month.

Next do a search on Google for the same words. You are looking for:

  • The number of websites on the topic (you want this to be in the millions)
  • Existing ads. You don’t want a topic where someone is already using a good sales letter and selling an e-book. You also don’t want heaps of ads, otherwise you end up paying too much per click to get in the top three.

The Grants talk about using the keyword discovery tool but there is a much easier way now with the Google Keyword Tool. Just go to: https://adwords.google.com.au/select/KeywordToolExternal

This is only the first step. Stay posted for the next 5 steps. I cannot stress how useful this information has been to us in getting started with our online business and I hope it helps you also.

Until next time

Self Doubt: A Blockage To Online Business Success

May 9th, 2009

Ok, am I the only one who at times suffers from self doubt?  Am I the only one who sometimes thinks this is all too much for me and I’ll never be as successful as all those other people out there who are running successful online businesses?

I didn’t think so! What human being has not suffered from some form of self doubt in their lives? Will she accept my offer of a date?  I don’t think that I’m going to be offered the job. Why is it that everyone else in the world is smarter, prettier and more successful? Or, here’s the big doozie: “Why does everything have to be so hard for me and so easy for everyone else?”

Come on now, be honest, surely I am not the only one who goes through this painful experience of self doubt?  The question here could be why write about this on a blog designed for online business success? For one reason only: self doubt could rob you of any opportunity to be successful with your online business – hey, even with me and my online business.

Most success coaches (that’s me believe it or not) would tell you that success is determined 90% by what we think and only 10% by what we do. There was an interesting experiment some time ago that looked at coaching success for basketballers. They took three groups: the first group was only allowed to think about shooting hoops, the second group was only allowed to practice shooting hoops and the third group was coached in both mental and practical basketball skills. Which group did the best? Group one and three both succeeded to the same level. In other words, the actual action of shooting hoops made litttle difference. It was all about training the mind.

Occassionally this self defeating blockage of self doubt pops into my head so what do I do about it? This is what I do and maybe it will help you:

  1. Remember the dream. We have a dream book and I like to remind myself of exactly why I started this online business in the first place. It is a powerful motivator.
  2. Allow myself a little pity party but after a short time of feeling the feelings and feeling sorry for myself, I take a deep breath and tell myself to get back on with the job.
  3. I recall all the things in my life that I have already been successful with eg. raising three daughters and for part of that time on my own, completing two degrees, having  a  private practice for 15 years, managing a 140 staff successfully in the program that I run currently, surviving a terrible divorce and best of all finding the love of my life later in life. If I can do these things then I can continue to face life’s challenges and win
  4. Mix with people who will pull you up, not pull you down. We all need encouragement. I truly hope that my blog is an encouragement to you and that in some ways I can be a mentor to others in need.

Let me know what you do to deal with an attack of the self doubts. I know that it will be of help to others who are reading this.

I’m off for a weeks holiday to beautiful Coffs Harbour tomorrow so no post for a week. I really am a firm believer in the need for self care and nurturing.

Until next time

Don’t Just Run The Race, Run The Race To Win

April 21st, 2009

Recently, I read something that made me think about the challenge of winning or in other words, achieving success:
“Do you not know that in a race all the runners run but only one gets the prize”
1 Corinthians 9:24
I really related to this quote and the fact that I just did not want to be involved in running the race, I actually wanted to get the prize when it comes to being successful with my online business. I started to think about what winners actually do to win and soon realized that all of these things were applicable to success with my online business.
If I want to be successful with my online business, then I need to follow all of the steps below:
1. Train hard. For more information on this go to Entry 2. February 18th 2009 “The Key To Unlocking The Secrets To Success” We must put the effort in. Practice, practice and then practice some more to perfect the skills. I just learnt recently, that it takes 10,000 hours of practice to be truly good at something.
2. Take time to understand and respect your competition. You are not an island. You are actually competing against others for the coverted prize. Study and learn from your opposition. Learn to do things different and better.
3. Never give up. Winston Churchill said it beautifully: “We will never, never, never…………..give up”. The major point is that he said “never” for 30 mins. I think he made his point.
4. Practice discipline and routine. First decide what routine you will need to achieve your dreams. Then of course repeat it – over and over again. It only takes 28 days to establish (or break) a habit, so why not establish great habits that will lead you to exactly where you want to go
5. Focus, Focus, Focus. It is so easy to be distracted by 1000’s of other things in your life. By all means, enjoy life to the best of your ability but discipline yourself that at certain times you will be totally focused on the tasks required to win the prize you are chasing. Without focus you will just spend alot of time getting nowhere in particular.
6. Sacrifice. Oops! Not really a well loved term today. We need to sacrifice now so we can enjoy the fruits of the prize later. The athelete who gets up to train at 4 and 5am would probably much rather have a couple of hours extra sleep but when the stand on the podium to win their prize all the sacrifice is forgotten in the joy of the win. We need to sacrifice of our time, energy and resources.
7. Prioritize. Does anyone else have trouble with this? Sometimes we try so hard to prioritize what we believe to be important but still get it wrong. 5 years, 10, 20 years of hard work goes by and we still are not where we want to be. Stephen Covey tells us we spend 80% of our time working on things that are really only 20% important to us. Get hold of a journal and spend some time deciding on what is important to you and then start to prioritize. You will be amazed at what you can accomplish in a much shorter period of time.
8. Dream. “Without a vision, the people will perish”. Dreams keep us alive. They get us up in the morning with with renewed vitality and motivation to tackle the day with purpose. My husband and I have a dream book. In it we write the things that we want to achieve. Some are small and personal such as dancing lessons, others are large and longterm such as a successful online business to create passive income. Write everything you have dreamed of – no judgements. It will surprise you what is really in your heart
9. Never lose sight of the goal. This can be difficult when you are seeing few results. Keep coming back to your dream book. Remember why you embarked on this journey.
10. Build a good support team around you. The athelete has the coach and the physio to name just a few. You will need a mentor or coach. Hopefully, I can be part of that journey for you as we learn together. I would also like to recommend the people we use Andrew and Daryl Grant. Just go to the banner ad on the front page of my blog. I’ll be talking more later about this topic.
11. Understand your personal roadblocks, obstacles and weaknesses. They say that 90% of the battle is in the mind. This is the purpose of this blog and I will be writing much more on this topic.
12. Educate yourself about the process, skills and techniques that you will need to acquire to be successful at the internet business you have chosen. This is your fasttrack to success and as already mentioned in Point Number 1 see my Entry 2 post.
13. Remember to take care of your main tool – yourself. No one else is going to do this and if you burn out or go off the rails then your dreams of winning the prize will never be realized.

Let me know if you have any other points that would help other people in this area of running the race to win the prize. In particular, I would love to hear what roadblocks you have to achieving your dreams?

Until next time

Entry 2. The Key To Unlocking the Secrets To Success

February 18th, 2009

Education is the greatest key for unlocking the secrets to success.

With this in mind I started a purposeful journey to source the information I needed to develop a successful internet business.

Books were what I knew so this is where I started. As mentioned in Entry 1, my first book in this area was the “One Minute Millionaire” by Mark Victor Hansen which was actually responsible for giving me the idea to start an online business. The basic idea was – write a book, sell it online and make a $million. Sounded good to me so off I went.

“How to Make Money While You Sleep” gave me the “meat” I needed or in other words, the “how to”. Brett McFall takes you through 7 steps to build an online business. It was through subscribing to Brett’s newsletter (www.brettmcfall.com) that I found out about a seminar being held in Brisbane over the weekend. We managed to get free tickets which was really important as we had very little money to spend.

This seminar was a turning point for us and although each speaker only gave a brief information session we still learnt heaps, formed the direction that we wanted to move in and was inspired to commit to this. Just a suggestion: be careful not to commit too much money up front as it is useful to understand exactly what you want to do before you commit to specialized help. There are lots of these sorts of generalized seminars around and they will help you make up your mind.

Dale Beaumonts “Secrets of Internet Entrepreneurs Exposed” blew me away (see our banner ad for heaps of free information from Dale on how to become a publisher). Here was story after story of people who were doing what I wanted to do and doing very well at it. I didn’t understand any of the technical stuff they were talking about but I was able to narrow down the sorts of systems that I thought would work for us. It was in this book that I had my first introduction to the people who were to be my main model for developing our business – Daryl and Andrew Grant – see our banner ad for their mentoring program to which I belong.

So begins my journey of learning and I have a funny feeling this journey is never going to end.

I soooo love learning!

Until next time
Julie
